High Protein Roti — A Simple Daily Upgrade

Making protein-rich rotis doesn't need to be complicated. With Gourmet Staples protein atta, you can turn your everyday roti into a high protein roti — no extra ingredients, no change in your usual routine. A roti made with about 33g of Pro Atta 30 gives roughly 10g of protein, and one made with our 28g Protein Atta about 9g, compared with 3 to 4g from regular whole wheat atta.

Which atta should you use for protein roti?

  • Pro Atta 30 high protein atta — 30g protein per 100g, four ingredients (stone-ground whole wheat, wheat protein, defatted soya flour, guar gum), no whey and no peanuts. ₹900 for 4.5 kg (5 x 900g), about ₹200 per kg, with free delivery.
  • Buy protein atta online — 28g protein per 100g multigrain blend. ₹649 for 900g, ₹1,299 for 2 packs, ₹1,849 for 3 packs; ships in 24 to 48 hours.

Ingredients (Makes 6-8 rotis)

  • 2 cups Gourmet Staples Pro Atta 30 or Protein Atta
  • Warm water, as needed (approx. 1 cup — add it gradually)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (optional)
  • Ghee or oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. Knead the Dough: In a large bowl, add the protein atta and salt. Gradually add warm water while kneading until you get a soft, pliable dough. Protein atta can take a little more water than regular atta. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes covered with a damp cloth.
  2. Divide and Roll: Divide the dough into equal-sized balls. Roll each ball into an even circle using a rolling pin, dusting with dry flour as needed. Keep it slightly thicker than a regular phulka — very thin protein rotis dry out faster.
  3. Cook on Tawa: Heat a tawa (griddle) on medium-high heat. Place the rolled roti on it and cook for 30-40 seconds until small bubbles appear, then flip.
  4. Puff It Up: Cook the other side for another 30 seconds, then use tongs to place the roti directly over an open flame (or press with a cloth on tawa) until it puffs up.
  5. Finish with Ghee: Brush lightly with ghee and serve hot. Keep cooked rotis wrapped in a cloth so they stay soft.
